Joe Kleinerman 10K Run

3/10/2024

The day was January 9th, 2024 and it was race day baby! This was my first New York Road Runner Race of the new year and man was it a cold one. Although the degrees were low, the energy was at an all time high. But before I dive deep into the race, I want talk about the preparation. You see The journey to race day begins long before you toe the starting line. Proper preparation is key to a successful 10K experience. This includes consistent training, adequate rest, and attention to nutrition. This period before a race is what will determine your performance level. Trust me, as I was running, I saw a lot of people my age slowly breakdown during the race, vomit or stop running completely. So please give your self the best chance to succeed by preparing effectively. I promise the satisfaction you receive the morning of race day after weeks of strong discipline is so worth it.

Central Park was the location of this race. There's nothing quite like the buzz of excitement on race morning filling up the whole vicinity. From the camaraderie of fellow runners to the adrenaline pumping through your veins, the energy is palpable. My advice to you is to arrive early, soak in the atmosphere, and mentally prepare yourself for the challenge ahead. Remember, every step you take brings you closer to victory. For me, I knew my biggest thing was to pace myself. As the starting gun fires and the crowd surges forward, it's tempting to get swept up in the excitement and start off too fast. But pacing is crucial in a 10K race. Find a comfortable rhythm that allows you to maintain a steady pace throughout the course. Listen to your body, conserve your energy, and save that final kick for the last stretch. Don't forget to also play your favorite song, it helps! Mine is Love Yours by J.Cole.

I quickly learned Central Park would stay implanted in my brain for its high elevation points. Considering it was only a 6 mile run, I did not realize there were hills every 5 minutes. As I traversed the course, I embraced the journey unfolding before me. Taking in the sights and sounds of the race environment, drawing strength from the cheering spectators, and reveling in the beauty of pushing every limit. Trust me, there is no race without a little bit of fatigue or moments of doubts. Remember, every step is a testament to your resilience and determination. As the race was coming to an end, I turned off my music and just embraced how much support was surrounding me and all the other runners. After the run was over, I congratulated my friends who finished shortly after me. We had did it!!! At this point it's a celebration. As you high-five fellow runners, smile for the race photographers, and soak up this moment of achievement, you feel on top of the world!

The running game is a game of pace, breathing and never giving up and as I mentioned before, preparation is key ladies and gentlemen! Stay tuned for my next blog as I prepare for the Brooklyn Half Marathon.
